THE FACULTY OF FASHION SCIENCE

The Faculty of Fashion Science approaches today's continuously evolving fashion culture from various angles. There are two departments in this faculty. In the Department of Fashion Technology, students pursue the study of fashion as a form of creation and as a branch of science. In the Department of Fashion Sociology, students study fashion from the points of view of sociology, economics, and history.
The Department of Fashion Technology offers programs that are designed for students to learn the theory and the practice of sculpting, in order to acquire practical skills, and to develop their ability to create original designs. Students also study fashion from a scientific point of view, focusing on subjects such as materials, cleaning techniques, and environmental issues. These studies will enable them, upon graduation, to contribute positively to the fashion industry.
The Department of Fashion Sociology offers programs in which students study fashion from the viewpoint of human psychology and behavior, and from that of socio-cultural relationships. The basic issues of fashion, the use of clothing and fashion trends are studied from the points of view of sociology, psychology and trend theory. The apparel and fashion industries are considered from the points of view of distribution, consumption, industry, and management. Students also learn about the history, the culture and the ethnic characteristics inherent in fashion. A comprehensive knowledge of fashion will enable students to achieve competence in a wide range of fields.

THE FACULTY OF ART AND DESIGN

The Faculty of Art and Design offers students opportunities to improve their artistic sensitivity and skills, and also encourages them to make use of their innate feminine perspective when creating comfortable and highly original living space. There are two departments in this faculty. The Department of Living Art and Design offers the study of a variety of designs that enrich our daily lives. In the Department of Dwelling Environment, students pursue ways of making comfortable living space.
The Department of Living Art and Design offers programs in basic sculpting theory and practice, as well as in subjects related to the computer and new media. As these programs respond to the constant changes in life styles, students can fully develop their designing skills, and in doing so, they learn to create pleasant living environments and to become an asset to their future places of employment.
The Department of Dwelling Environment offers courses that pursue answers to the question of 'how to live in comfort through the study of the 'hardware' and 'software' of living space.' Students can learn the theories and acquire the necessary skills for designing comfortable living environments, as well as developing their ability to create practical designs. They can also learn how to apply their feminine instincts and thoroughness to architectural and interior designing. These programs will enable students to become leaders in the field of home design in the 21st Century.

THE FACULTY OF LIBERAL ARTS AND SCIENCES

The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences consists of the three Departments: the Department of Intercultural Studies, through which students acquire knowledge and practical skills required to take an active part in the international community; the Department of International Fashion and Culture Studies, which provides students with not only professional knowledge on fashion but also language skills and expertise in journalism; and the Department of Health Psychology which fosters specialists in the field of Mental Health.
The Department of Intercultural Studies is designed for students to acquire the theory and practical language skills necessary for conducting cross-cultural comparison, and the understanding of different cultures. It aims to foster individuals, who can be regarded as genuine cosmopolitans, by conducting intensive language education and by supplying them with a curriculum that includes special subjects and various kinds of skills required for working in service and tourist industries.
The Department of International Fashion and Culture Studies is designed for students to gain a wide range of knowledge which is required in the fashion business, and has a unique curriculum containing overseas study programs and the planning and holding of fashion shows inside and outside Japan.
The Department of Health Psychology is a new discipline, with its aim being to restore, maintain and promote people's health and prevent diseases. By incorporating psychological approaches in the study of human health to improve people's lifestyles and behaviors, it helps to make human life an enriching one.

BUNKA WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY GRADUATE SCHOOL: FASHION AND LIVING ENVIRONMENT, AND INTERCULTURAL STUDIES

Bunka Women's University Graduate School offers two graduate courses; Fashion and Living Environment, and Intercultural Studies.
Fashion and Living Environment, as one of the branches of general science, is expanding its field of research. The Department of Fashion and Living Environment offers general and interdisciplinary studies in the science of clothing: Science of Clothing (the first half of the doctorate program) and Environmental Clothing Studies (the second half). In addition, it offers a program, the Science of Living Environment that examines the harmonious relationships between humans, objects, and space. Through research activities and research problem solving, students can expand their knowledge and skills in order to become leaders in the fields of industry and research.
The Graduate Program in Intercultural Studies is divided into two areas of study : one, the Intercultural Studies Concentration, which aims for students to get an in-depth understanding of diversified cultures and carry out comparative studies of those cultures; and the Health Psychology Concentration, which is being highlighted as a new discipline, which aims to foster individuals who are equipped with special knowledge.

BUNKA WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY JUNIOR COLLEGE

Bunka Women's University Junior College consists of the Department of Fashion, the Department of Crafts and Design and Extended Programs.
@The Department of Fashion is made up of two Courses: Creative Fashion, which aims for students to learn theories and techniques of clothing making and to develop their design capabilities; and Fashion Business, through which students gain extensive knowledge from the perspective of the fashion business scene. This Department is designed to provide students opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills, to cultivate sensibility and to develop abilities to put this knowledge and skill into practice so that they can be readily useful in the fashion industry.
There are four Programs in the Department of Crafts and Design: (1) Graphic Design, in which students learn how to design and produce posters and picture books; (2) Artistic Expression where students are provided with a wide range of experiences in feeling the splendor of art; (3) Craft Studies (Jewelry and Ceramics), in which students learn how to make goods through making jewelry and ceramics; and (4) Interior Design where students study about materials and space architecture in order to make dwellings and the living environment comfortable. This Department is designed to foster individuals who, using unique woman's ideas, are able to design, create, plan and propose living space in pursuit of comfort with close attention to detail.
The Extended Program consists of three areas of specialized study, the Extended Program in Clothing, the Extended Program in Living Arts, and the Extended Program in Intercultural Studies. This one-year program is offered to graduates of our two-year junior college program.

BUNKA WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY MURORAN JUNIOR COLLEGE

Having a history of more than thirty years since its founding in 1969, Bunka Women's University Muroran Junior College has helped shape the lives of many students who have gone on to become good members of the community.
The College consists of the Liberal Arts Department and the Nursery Education Department. The Liberal Arts Department, by further dividing into three specialized courses, focuses its efforts on the creation of a positive arena for education. This focus includes the development of practical teaching methods, using the latest information equipment in order to respond to the needs of the times. Graduates of this program are allowed admittance to the 3rd year at Bunka WomenÕs University.
The Nursery Education Department provides training for kindergarten and nursery school teachers. It aims to foster individuals, qualified in the fields of preschool education and child welfare, who will become actively involved in the community.

SUMIRE KINDERGARTEN AFFILIATED WITH BUNKA WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY

Sumire Kindergarten was established in September 1972. It is located in Tama New Town, a planned city developed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Since that time, the kindergarten has developed within the community, and has been watched over by the community.
It is situated in a nature rich area of Tama Hills where people can fully enjoy their lives in a relaxed environment. Keeping in mind the importance of childhood, during which children develop the basis of their personality, and with the aim to foster children's creativity, ability to think and make judgments, the kindergarten pursues genuine early childhood education based on daily routine.

KINDERGARTEN AFFILIATED
WITH BUNKA WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY MURORAN JUNIOR COLLEGE

This Kindergarten was built on one section of the Muroran Junior College campus in April 1976. It aims to promote preschool education within the community, as well as contribute to educational activities such as student teaching practice.
The kindergarten, richly surrounded by nature, including a lawn garden and a grove of white birch trees, is an ideal environment for children to comfortably learn and play, both indoors and outdoors.
The kindergarten nurtures the creativity and self-expression of the children, as well as developing a rich sensitivity through its unique childcare approach centering on play; reading to children from picture books (their collection exceeds 3000); allowing them use of the library; and giving them a chance to engage in hand-bell music performances.
The students from the Nursery Education Department of the Muroran Junior College are also in close contact with the kindergarten children.
