BUNKA RESEARCH LAB FOR GENERAL STUDY OF FASHION

The fashion industry is in constant need of individuals who are equipped, not only with designing and formative abilities, but also a comprehensive understanding of marketing, production technology and management. The Bunka Research Laboratory for the General Study of Fashion was established in anticipation of these demands. Its mandate is to provide a comprehensive study of the main elements pertaining to the fashion industry. The Research Lab utilizes a philosophical model based on the relationship between clothing and society. The Research Lab makes it its mission to look at the fashion industry from both the traditional lines of development, and lines of development as they are affected by globalization. The Research Lab researches, designs and promotes new theoretical and practical models in order to conduct further basic and applied studies. The fashion industry is now faced with some very complex demands, for example, culture and fashion, an aging society, information networking, IT-oriented industry, globalization of the fashion economy and of course environmental issues. In response to these demands, the Research Lab endeavors to integrate them and to provide adequate solutions for research and education.

BUNKA RESERCH LAB FOR STYLE AND FUNCTION OF FASHION

The Bunka Research Lab for Style and Function of Fashion was set up in 1999. It is equipped with a variety of measuring instruments, including 3D measuring machines, necessary in obtaining data on the size and the shape of the human body. With the introduction of 3D measuring technologies, the Research Lab has developed the new ÔBunka Nude Body,Õ which reflects young women's somatotypes. The ÔBunka Nude BodyÕ model is now widely used in both schools and the apparel industry.
The Research Lab has also developed the Ôyoung men's nude body modelÕ, striving to reform men's clothing education. The Research Lab has analyzed the characteristics of the human body, from childhood to old age, and based on this data now conducts clothing pattern studies using these somatotypes. The Research Lab also collaborates with other research institutions and apparel companies, often accepting their requests for measurement. The Research Lab is fully open to the public and it makes the results of its research, and its measurement data available and completely accessible to all.

BUNKA RESERCH LAB FOR FUTURE CLOTHING DESIGN

Information technology is pervasive in all areas of modern society, industry, business, and private life. As a result of this, the pursuit of superior designs, incorporating functionality as well as originality has become the key to success in the IT world. Similar expectations are now being placed on the fashion industry. As a means of free self-expression, fashion will have a huge impact on the way information technology evolves. Design, function, originality and comfort have been studied for a long time in the field of fashion. With the immergence of information technology this study takes on new meaning and becomes an important factor in determining the course of future clothing design. As a result, this has become an important theme in the direction of study now being conducted by the Research Lab.
